Criminal relationality on the net
The brouteurs in francophone West Africa
Abstract
Digital technologies enhance the gesture of globalization where new interindividual relationships emerge based on virtual proximity. My paper analyses these virtual interactions involving people from central and peripheral regions. For this instance, it explores how young Africans misuse internet to abuse their western dating partners. This leads to a subculture in the context of global modernism, in which the fake relationship is embedded in general perceptions of white men in African societies.
